Mobile Homes

Specification for Electric Service Connections to Mobile Homes 

All mobile homes receiving electric service from Abbeville Public Utilities must be connected in accordance with the following specifications:

A. FOR UNDERGROUND SERVICE
1. Doublewide Mobile Homes
a. The City of Abbeville will provide the following equipment and materials: underground meter box, 8- foot ground rod with clamp, copper grounding wire and conduit for the line side of the meter box.
b. The homeowner will provide conduit and service entrance wire to connect the meter box to the main electric service panel to the home.
c. A licensed electrician must complete installation of the   meter box, ground rod and connections.

2. Singlewide Mobile Homes
a. The City of Abbeville will provide the following equipment and materials: underground meter box, treated wood H-frame to mount meter box, 8 foot ground rod with clamp and grounding wire.
b. The homeowner will provide a disconnect switch to be mounted on the H-frame, under or to the side of the meter box and conduit and service entrance wire to connect the meter to the disconnect switch and to connect the disconnect switch to the main electric service panel in the home.
c. A licensed electrician must complete installation of the meter box, ground rod, disconnect switch and connections.
d. For an additional charge of $225.00 the City of Abbeville will provide the disconnect switch and install the H-frame, meter box, disconnect switch and ground rod. The homeowner’s electrician must still make the final connection from the disconnect switch to the main electric service panel in the home.


B. FOR OVERHEAD ELECTRIC SERVICE
1. The City of Abbeville will provide the following equipment and materials: service pole, meter box, conduit, weather head and wire for meter loop, 8 foot ground rod with clamp and grounding wire.
2. The homeowner will provide a disconnect switch, to be mounted below the meter box on the service pole and conduit and service entrance wire to connect the meter to the disconnect switch to the main electric service panel in the home.
3. A licensed electrician must complete installation of the meter box, ground rod, disconnect switch and connections.
4. For an additional charge of $225.00 the City of Abbeville will provide the disconnect switch and install the service pole, meter box, disconnect switch and ground rod. The homeowner’s electrician must still make to final connection from the disconnect switch to the main electric service panel in the home.
